EuroCloud Italia – Cloud Closed Day
EuroCloud Italia participated in an innovative way to ensure the event’s continuity and to revisit its content following the conclusion of the official sessions, and organized a debriefing roundtable in the Sala delle Colonne at the Westin Palace.
“One of EuroCloud Italia’s key objectives is to serve as an interpreter and synthesizer of the content from the most important cloud conferences, ensuring that these events do not end with the chairpersons’ closing remarks.” This is how President Francesco Mondora commented during the opening of the roundtable, at which Italian representatives from both major players and emerging companies in cloud computing sat side by side:
- ValueTeam www.valueteam.com,
- Esker www.esker.com,
- Sensible Cloud www.sensiblecloud.com,
- Microsoft www.microsoft.com,
- aKite www.akite.net,

- ITGate www.itgate.it,
- TreeWeb www.treeweb.it.
Also in attendance was the agency 3’Design www.3design.net, which supports EuroCloud Italia’s communications efforts.
The debriefing lasted an hour and a half, and most of the discussion focused on sharing the desire to make the cloud computing revolution truly “tangible”—
“EuroCloud Italia, thanks in part to the EuroCloud Europe network, aims to be a social ecosystem—even before it is a business—and seeks to engage critically with American and Asian counterparts: it will be the ‘Agora of the Cloud,’” emphasized Vice President Giorgio Betti.
During the meeting, the Forum’s main presentations were reviewed and refined, and it became clear that it is essential to provide the “demand” for cloud services with a simple and understandable vocabulary and to give it a front-row seat in the Agora.
Another key topic—interoperability—was addressed in the morning presentation by ENI’s VP of ICT, Gianluigi Castelli, and discussed during the roundtable, highlighting, among other things, the need for new brokerage services for cloud application offerings.
The debriefing concluded with the identification of three actions to be developed within the Association for the purpose of research and subsequent advocacy with stakeholders:
- Establishment of a working group focused on an easy-to-use and user-friendly cloud solution for “demand”
- Establishment of a Working Group on Italian and International Legal and Compliance Regulations
- Development of a proof-of-concept and test-driving system that enables “customers” to understand and build their confidence in the cloud
At the conclusion of the meeting—which was also attended by council members Fabio Cecaro and Andrea Rivetti—the President announced that the first edition ofthe “EuroCloud Italia Open Day”will be held during the week of June 13, providing an opportunity to present our country’s contributions to the upcoming EuroCloud Europe Congress (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, June 27–28 www.eurocloud.org/2011/03/02/save-the-date-june-27-28 ) ..
The next debriefing event organized by ECI will take place in Ferrara on May 19 as part of the ICT Trade event in Ferrara.
