For days we have been hearing about Swisscom’s takeover bid for our Fastweb<\/a>, while a desktop and application<\/a> virtualization project between Swisscom and Citrix is underway.<\/p>\n

Maybe soon we will have a serious offer of virtual office in Italy?<\/p>\n

The project with Citrix currently operates with 25 Citrix XenApps for 25000 concurrent users, provides XP-based virtual desktops with about 100 applications, including Siebel\/Samba, Microsoft Office, SAP.<\/p>\n

“Desktop as a service” and application kiosks<\/h4>\n

In addition, the first product line of the future can already be glimpsed within “Swisscom IT Services”: the administrators have already installed the preview of “Project Apollo”. Under this codename, Citrix is developing technology for virtual provisioning of high-end application graphics using the ICA protocol. Swisscom employees test graphics acceleration with various applications and were impressed by the initial results.<\/p>\n
